About

Dr. McLean

I obtained my undergraduate education at Loyola New Orleans in 2004, and I received my doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University with an emphasis in applied behavioral analysis and school psychology in 2009. I went on to complete an internship and fellowship at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Omaha, Nebraska where I was trained in a Primary Care Pediatric Psychology Model. During my 10 years at this clinic, I provided outpatient individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults for a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns. I also assisted in the development and oversight of the Parenting for Success Clinic, a service that provides parent-child interaction therapy techniques to children and their caretakers to manage behavioral concerns. I co-created a social skills curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school age youth. I assisted with the oversight of the Interpersonal Skills 4 Kids groups where this curriculum was employed to address social interaction skills. After 10 years of working as a staff psychologist in Nebraska, my family moved to Northern Virginia in 2018 where I continued to provide psychological services to children, adolescents, young adults and families. Many of my clients in Northern Virginia are referred to me by pediatricians with whom I have a close and collaborative relationship. I have found that collaboration with my clients’ pediatricians enhances both access to behavioral health services and the quality of services for both physicians and families. I have training, experiences, and expertise in providing behavioral health services for youth of all ages (toddler through college age) for a wide array of problems, including: • Anxiety • Panic attacks • OCD • Depression • Anger problems • ADHD • Oppositional behavior • Not listening • Arguing • Aggression • Temper tantrums • Difficulties dealing with frustration • Relationship concerns • Sleep/bedtime problems • Difficulties making friends • Parent child conflicts All of my services are delivered virtually. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth usage surged as consumers and providers sought ways to safely access and deliver healthcare. Initially, telehealth allowed me to safely continue providing services to children and families without the risk of transmitting or contracting the virus. I made the choice to continue providing full time telehealth services as there are multiple benefits to the clients I serve including expanding access to care, decreasing commute time to and from the appointment, and allowing clients increased comfort and privacy during appointments. Common locations where clients complete appointments with me include inside their homes, in a car parked in the parking lot of the client’s school, or in a private location within the client's school.
